Targeted killing in Baluchistan continues as a Professor of the University of Balochistan was shot dead outside his residence in Quetta on Thursday, November 05, 2009. Unidentified men shot Professor Kurshid Ansari of the Department of Library Sciences, University of Balochistan, late in the evening while he was going to offer his prayer at the mosque.

The armed men sprayed Professor Ansari with bullets while riding past him on a motorcycle. The professor fell dead almost instantly while being rushed to the hospital. After the autopsy, the dead body was handed over to bereaved family for burial. A large number of students and academic staff from the university arrived in the hospital after learning about Professor Ansari’s killing.

On Friday, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the killing. Three days of mourning and boycott of classes has been announced by the Academic Staff Association of the university. The Chief Minister of Balochistan has ordered the police to track the killers.
