The latest threat from the fanatics is targeted at none else but medical doctors, generally considered as more ‘westernized’ in Peshawar, as not to wear pant-shirt. Threatening letters have been received by the medical community of three main public hospitals in Peshawar: Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH), and Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC).
The threatening letters, sent to the hospitals, have reportedly come from Tehrik-e-Taliban who have ‘ordered’ the doctors to stop wearing pant-shirt or else get ready for suicide bombing. Upon receiving the letters, the chief executives of the three hospitals circulated the letters among their staff and advised them to take precautionary measures. A number of doctors are said to have already stopped wearing pant-shirt after learning about the letters. A senior doctor at the KTH has also been reported saying that this incidence is a sign of lawlessness in Pakistan and citizens in their private affairs have become the subordinates of terrorists.
NWFP’s Health Secretary Dr Sohail Altaf also confirmed receiving a copy of the threatening letters and told the media that the letters have been sent to IG Police Malik Naveed in order to investigate the matter.
Too bad the Pakistani government thought they could pacify the Taliban by handing over Swat to them.
I’ll pray for your country!
And you seem to be from Peshawar, Karim. Does Peshawar fall in SWAT or NWPF? I don’t exactly but I know that Peshawar is somewhere to the NW in Pakistan’s map..
