With the surplus production of wheat at hand, the government of Punjab is planning to export as much as a million tons of wheat, as expressed by the provincial Food Minister Malik Nadim Kamran. The provincial government has constituted a special committee, led by Senator Ishaq Dar, for the assessment of wheat export and for making export arrangements.

Punjab Looks to Exporting One Million Tons of Wheat

Talking to a press conference, the provincial Food Minister told that the government won’t repeat the mistake of exporting wheat without carefully assessing the indigenous need of wheat and then forced to import wheat for domestic consumption. Only the surplus wheat will be exported. This is also important because the last year’s imported wheat was of poor quality.

Currently, the main importers of Pakistan’s wheat include Afghanistan, Iraq, and Egypt while the World Food Program also has submitted their requirements for exporting wheat from Pakistan. It is worth mentioning that the Punjab Food Department has gained notable success in producing 3.6 millions tons of quality wheat this year as against the 1.3 million tons of last year.

Pakistani people know about the wheat? I thought they eat the gun powder only?

Manish, Pakistan is a land where more than 40 percent people live below poverty line. They are helpless, needy, and they are as much human as any of us. It will be too much to equate all Pakistanis with a bunch of terrorists.

Export of wheat from Pakistan! Are Pakistanis getting the enough food?
1 Stars
Important question! The answer is no. A large part of the population does not get food, the poor forced to beg or ask for doles since they can’t afford to buy stuff. There was one man from Swat who could not afford to hire a vehicle in order to take the dead body of hs son back to his village. He begged in order to get the required 300 rupees. You can imagine what poor people live like in our country.

Exactly, this is what i was wondering. Its the citizens that are supposed to
be fed 1st by the govt and then comes the export. This is an irresponsible
behavior of Zardari govt towards poor Pakistanis.
