Governor Punjab Salman Taseer has blamed security lapses as the main cause of the damage suffered on account of terrorist attacks in Lahore on October 15, 2009. He said that greater attention needs to be paid to security since terrorists seem to be coming very well-planned for attacks.

While urging on the public to cooperate with the government in defeating terrorism, Mr. Taseer said he did not believe the terrorists to be Taliban or Mujahadeen (crusaders); they were just terrorists, working for their foreign masters. He said it was immature to accuse India as the force behind the recent attacks in Lahore; arms could be obtained by anyone from anywhere in the world.

Several arrests have been made in Lahore as part of the police investigation of Lahore terror attacks. Forensic evidence is being studied by the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA), assisted by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) and the local police. Activities of foreigners, especially Afghan nationals, are being closely monitored in the city by the police department.
