Pakistan’s famous fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar will not be playing in the coming Twenty 20 World Cup Cricket Tournament, which begins on June 05, 2009. The 33-year-old paceman is unfit on account of a genital infection and has been put on rest by the doctors.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided Shoaib’s omission from the team after receiving a medical report that disclosed a skin infection in the genital region. Shoaib expressed his disappointment over the situation saying that he was preparing for the coming cricket event but would not be able to play out there now due to the medical condition. It has been learnt that the medical panel of the PCB will examine Shoaib again in the first week of June.
Due to a number of controversies and fitness issues, Shoaib Akhtar’s participation in the international cricket has been notably reduced so that he played only 6 one-day internationals and a single Twenty 20 match over the past one and a half years. He played in the recent series against Australia, in Dubai (UAE), but his performance remained tame, with only 3 wickets in 5 matches. With all the setbacks, Shoaib is now awaiting his return to fitness and international cricket.
