There is a huge financial crisis that has shaken almost all sectors throughout the world, including sports in Pakistan. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has continued to spend lavishly on officials and dignitaries, very manifestly, in their latest tour to Dubai, and for this, the PCB has came under criticism in the national media.
News sources report that the PCB is spending a huge amount on the current tour of Pakistan’s cricket team to the UAE where Pakistan is playing a one-day series against Australia. Many PCB officials have been sponsored to Dubai for watching the series, enjoying business class travel and a luring daily allowance. This comes in the face of PCB’s recent announcement of a financial loss due to problems with the scheduling of the series.
On the other hand, the Board has not cared for sponsoring anyone from its media department to cover the series in Dubai (a possible factor in media’s criticism of the Board’s extravagance). For overseeing the arrangements for media people in the UAE, the Board chose to hire a local group of people. Within the country, international cricket practically came to a stop after the infamous attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore (March 03, 2009). Since then, the PCB has lost billions of rupees due to cancellation of tours by foreign cricket teams.
