The government has announced a campaign against people who send emails and text messages against senior government officials, aiming at checking the ‘propaganda’ against the current government. The campaign has been initiated on the directions of the Interior Minister Rehman Malik in order to check the increasing number of emails and text messages that question the leadership of the government.

The latest campaign has been launched concomitant to another one against banned organizations that were spreading propaganda against the country’s security forces. The latest campaign assigns the task of monitoring and checking anti-government content to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Violators of the announced rule will be tried for Cyber Crime and may get up to 14 years of imprisonment. For overseas Pakistanis, the punishment may be a case of their extradition. The government has also requested the Interpol to help track people who are involved in spreading anti-government stories and messages.
The campaign has been announced through a press release issued by the Interior Ministry. It tells that the FIA will be physically checking servers of all the Internet Service Providers on daily basis to curtail the spreading of hateful content against government officials.
