At least 3 security officers have been killed and 10 injured in two different events in NWFP on Tuesday, November 4, 2008. The major violent attack was made on a security check post in the northwestern town of Hangu, in the locality of Doaba, killing one personnel and injuring 8 others when a suicide bomber crashed his explosives-laden car into the check post.
In the second event, taking place in Mardan District, unidentified assailants opened on a police van, killing two policemen and injuring two others.
Due to the suicide attack on security personnel in Doaba, the Tal-Hangu road was temporarily closed for traffic. The district police claimed that they have found the head of the suicide bomber and told that the bomber was aged 20 to 22 years. He was carrying about 40 kg of explosives in the car to make the blast, which took place at around 9:30 in the morning. The injured people have been hospitalized and the Prime Minister has condemned the event.
Security forces in Pakistan are under attack for over two years now. Terrorists tend to mark army personnel and policemen as enemies who stand in the way of their mission. Owing to aggressive attacks on security personnel, police stations, security check posts, and army headquarters have tightened their security measures and public passage has been closed for many places where security personnel live/work.
