The load-shedding suddenly came to an end in Peshawar and the city remained lit throughout while in Hangu an extended blackout pestered people on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, as winter started almost suddenly in the region.
In Peshawar city, evenings have grown cold and many people have started using warm clothes and blankets. The blackout episodes have stopped bothering the citizens except for day hours when people run their businesses. But since yesterday, power remained steady throughout the day and all night long. The reduction in power consumption, as the use of air conditioning units, fans, and air coolers has been stopped, is apparently saving the country a good deal of power.
On the other hand, small towns and rural areas continue to suffer from regular and occasional power outage episodes. In Hangu, for example, an extended power outage of about 10 hours pestered the Hanguwals throughout the day. The local Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) staff failed to provide any explanation for the long blackout and people kept waiting for the power to be restored to run household appliances.
