The latest in the Kerry-Lugar Bill, as lit by major news sources, is that Pakistani officials and leaders find the bill to demanding to be accepted. They tend to see the bill as at odds with Pakistan’s sovereignty and insulting to the national sense of autonomy. Consequently, the bill may not be accepted as its conditions are way too paralyzing.

There are several main problems with the terms of the Kerry-Lugar Bill, which has been approved by the US Congress for giving aid worth billions of dollars to Pakistan. The bill specifies that the prospective aid will not be given directly to the government but directly to developmental projects in the areas where these are executed. This appears to be the rooted in the concerns of the US administration regarding the misuse of money in government departments.
Another concern of the bill relates the status of the military in the country as against civil administration, especially the civilian control of the military, promotions in the military, and the relative involvement of civilian and military in each other’s affairs. In addition, the bill sees military and intelligence agencies as supporters of terrorists in the country, demanding that this support be stopped.
Unlike the mainstream conception of the tribal belt as safe the haven of the terrorists, the bill considers cities like Quetta (Baluchistan) and Muridke (Punjab) as the real bases of terrorists and demands a military operation in these cities in order for the aid to be available. This is also being regarded as a shocking aspect of the bill.
Both ruling and opposition parties of the country have rejected the bill a threat to and mischief against Pakistan’s autonomy in issues of national importance. More aggressive protest came from Jamaat-i-Islami and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Group (PML-N). On the whole, the country’s leadership sees the bill’s clause as anti-Pakistan terms. However, Preseident Zardari has rejected the criticism on the Kerry-Lugar Bill and called it the best aid bill offered to Pakistan.
