Karachi, Pakistan’s coastal city and provincial capital of Sindh province, is one of the world’s cheapest city for expatriates. This finding came from a global survey of 143 cities conducted by the consultancy firm Mercer. South African city Johannesburg was found to be the least expensive city.
On the other end of the survey’s list stands Tokyo as the world’s most expensive city, followed by another Japanese city – Osaka. The Russian capital Moscow has been found the third most expensive city, followed by Geneva (Switzerland) and Hong Kong. The survey also found a rise in the expensiveness of some major American, Middle Eastern, and Chinese cities. New York, Beijing, and Dubai all have moved up in the list of expensiveness while London and Paris have become a little less expensive than the previous year.
