After threatening the medical staff in Peshawar’s major government hospitals, women and medical reps in the city have also been threatened against wearing ‘objectionable’ dress. For medical reps, threatening letters have warned against wearing pant-coat while some women, seen shopping in Saddar Bazar, have been warned to ‘correct’ their dresses.

Harassment for Donning Western Attire Continues in Peshawar

In a news post, appearing in the famous Urdu daily Mashriq, a number of representatives of pharmaceutical companies (medical reps), staged a protest in front of the Peshawar Press Club against the torture and threats inflicted on them by unidentified terrorists. One of the representatives was recently tortured physically by some fanatics, on the pretext of wearing pant-coat (the typical nifty style of dress characterizing most medical reps). In addition, they have been receiving letters from unnamed people, threatening them to give up their western dress along with other directives including quitting jobs. The protesters urged upon the government to provide them protection against this kind of persecution as they could not leave their jobs due to the coercion by fanatics.

In another news piece, in the same edition, women shoppers in Peshawar Saddar’s main market were seen threatened by a group of people who warned them to correct their objectionable dresses or else bear the consequences. This observation was reported on Saturday evening, about two hours before a bomb blast took place near the same spot where the women shoppers were threatened. The incident has filled the air of the city with fear, grief, and a growing sense of helplessness.

Is it a surprise most Muslim countries are the most poorest, poverty stricken, savage, fascist and savage when Muslim tyrant men like this control it. You will never prosper by oppressing your people, history and sight verifies this.

This is the problem Mina that no body is ready to learn from history and everyone wants to gain their individual experiences.

Speaking as a god- fearing Englishman, and having been brought up in a good and loving society I feel that Allah would surely want his creations, both men and women, to be given equal consideration and choice in the way they live as long as this did not harm others of His creation. God has given us life so we must not take it from anybody, for any imagined reason.

You are right Aron.

None of the religion teach hatred but these extremists are just using islam in the way they want to. The biggest boost up for them is that the moderates are not opposing them. They stay silent.

Me being Pakistani have this perception that there are always extremists and moderates out there, but it is responsibility of law and order which controls them and abide them to control their own views and understandings.

Obviously, this is not a good thing to deprive anybody of his/her liberties.

However, this has happened because of a handful of extremists but what about the societies where authorities/courts have deprived Muslim girls of their headscarves!

I find it disgusting that a government would allow people to openly preach such hate and then when questioned lie about the steps they are supposedly taking in order to change their society.

I'm wearing jeans right now and am seriously considering banning this damn unforgivable, too-hot fabric from my wardrobe.

Stupid jeans.

This is really sad that we are not allowed our basic freedom. I don't feel like living in this country.

Just pray for the angel which the Pakistani society is waiting for to save them (as per my understanding no angel shall come) as they are not doing anything themselves. The politicians are like the vultures, so called religious leadership is corrupt, social circle is damn asleep, and the judiciary is still in crisis.

Wait and Watch!
