Pakistan :

The latest about the Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud in the news is that Hakimullah is alive and he has also claimed that the Taliban movement’s chief in Waziristan Baituallah Mehsud is not dead. Some newspapers on Tuesday, August 11, 2009, published Hakimullah’s photo on the front page with the headline that Hakimullah Mehsud has appeared alive and has talked to a private TV channel, which ran Hakimullah’s statement. Hakimullah Mehsud Lives: Claims of Baituallah Still Alive

In his statement, Hakimullah Mehsud claimed that Baitullah was alive and that he would provide his proof to support his claim. He also challenged the interior ministry to prove Baitullah dead. He further told that he and Waliur Rehman had no conflict and hence the news of their clash was untrue. The interior ministry, in its latest statement, has again claimed that Baitullah is dead and that Hakimullah and other Taliban members were wounded in an armed conflict that occurred during an emergency meeting of the Taliban after Baitullah death on August 08 2009.

In another interesting news, it was learnt that a native of the Zhangrha village, where Mehsud was allegedly killed, called a British media channel and told them that he saw Baitullah Mehsud leaving the place (alive) some five minutes before the missile attack was made on the house of Baitullah’s in-laws. However, no verification of the claim was possible and so far there is no proof to believe that Baitullah is living.

What makes you believe that Hakimullah Mehsud could be ”the torch bearer of Islam in Pakistan”?

Is it the bloodshed wich they make in the name of Islam or something even more noble?

There seems to be something wrong with the Taliban commanders, they keep dying. Some thing is wrong at the bottom.

We have reason to trust him. I doubt if the people who murder women and children, throw acid in girl's faces and burn down schools would lie to us.

With Baitullah Mehsud terminated, the media reports are now flushed with rumors enveloping the death of Hakimullah Mehsud-the strongest contendor to succeed Baitullah. Whatever may be the truth, former’s death has exposed factional infighting within Taliban’s senior leadership. Forces fighting Taliban can take advantage of this loophpole and weaken the organisation that it yet to find leader in Pakistan. For the first time, eversince the beginning of war against terror Pakistan seems genuinely interested in securing its existence from the Taliban marauders. Besides it lends some credence to the US drone attacks that has killed more civilians than terrorists. Probably they noe understand that there is no ’GOOD’ or ’BAD’ Taliban. Anyhting which takes life ou of innocent people deserves brutish end.

After the August 11th, 2009 phone call to state that he was alive and well no one seems to have heard of or from Hakimullah Mehsud. Today I read an article that claims that he is indeed no more @ http://www.thenews.com.pk/print1.asp?id=193727.
The article however fails to substantiate its claim with any solid proof.
I happen to be completely obsessed with the mysterious personality of Hakimulah Mehsud. He has been called a Maulvi and a mufti by various news agencies. No one knows his right age. One news report said that he was 23 and another claimed that he wa in his late 20s. People have also said that he was in his early 30s. There is absolutely nothing known about his academic or familial background other than the fact that he was the cousin of Qari Hussain... the trainer of suicide bombers.
The first time I saw this man on TV, I was completely mesmerized by his personality and smile. To me it was mind boggling how a man so sweet and serene looking with such a kind smile could be termed as the most ruthless of the Taliban commanders.
All those who live in ISlamabad or Lahore for that matter know how perfectly planned all these attacks were. It would take a genius to plan something like that.
Being an idealist by choicem, I wonder sometimes what kind of a country Pakistan would be if these young men of great yet ”evil” geniuses were to work for Pakistan rather than against it.
Please post if you some additional information for Hakimullah Mehsud.
