In a rather sensational event, Pakistan film industry’s renowned heroine Meera was found married by the Lahore Police after her alleged husband reported to the police that her wife Meera’s mother was stealing antique furniture from the house he had gifted Meera. However, Meera has denied the claims of her being married.

The story revealed itself almost dramatically when Meera’s alleged husband Attiqur Rehman called the emergency police Lahore on Saturday, asking for help to save him from his in-laws (Meera’s parents and their other son-in-law) who were beating him. The police arrived on the address and arrested both parties. After initial interrogation at the police station, the police registered Attiqur Rehman’s complaint against Meera and her mother, alleging that the accused were stealing his possessions (antiques) from his house which he had gifted to Meera. He also produced the nikkahnama (marriage certificate) proving his marriage to Meera. The police is said to have verified the document by calling the concerned nikkah khwan (marriage registrar) and the registration of the document with the local union council. The marriage certificate shows the date 2nd September 2007 as the day when they got married.
Attiq told the police that he had run into a row with his father-in-law who then attacked her and was joined by Meera’s mother and their son-in-law Raheel. However, Meera has denied the claim that she is Attiq’s wife. Instead, she told media that she had only business relations with Attiq, who was now blackmailing her. The situation is expected to get clear after the police conduct further investigation.
