Nuclear warfare is a constant threat to life on earth but climate change is no less serious, says a summit of the world’s Nobel Laureates who, along with Prince Charles of the United Kingdom, recently issued a memorandum declaring temperature control as the best chance of stopping climate change’s catastrophe on planet earth. Failing to do so can result in a threat to life on earth as severe as that posed by nuclear warfare.

Climate Change – A Threat as Serious as Nuclear War

One of the main reasons furthering human inaction in efforts toward environmental amelioration seems to be the general feeling that the environmental threat is not immediate. And yet the statistics on environment/climate related damage are hair-raising. Consider, for example, a recent report by the think tank of former UN secretary general Kofi Annan, which reveals that global warming is causing about 300, 000 human deaths each year. If environmental pollution and greenhouse effect retain the same conditions, by 2030, adverse climate will cause about 500, 000 deaths per year.

The report also warns that if greenhouse emissions are not cut significantly in the next 25 years, about 400 million humans around the world will suffer in various forms like poverty, health problems, and displacement. Water shortage and problems of food production will intensify and ecosystems will suffer seriously. The report points to the fact that weak leadership and general ignorance of environmental issues are responsible for the coming climatic disaster.

A radical shift needs to happen, and rather quickly, from thinking that we're accidents in a Newtonian theory of the universe, or that we're put here by some holy man in the sky. We have no other theory, and we went from giving the universe too much respect to next to no respect. We're looking at ourselves, and realize, "It's time to take evolution in our own hands." We're looking at everything and thinking, thinking, thinking and walking away thinking if we thought enough.

A normal economist would tell you global warming is the most expensive problem to fix. Even if we invest mass amounts of money into it, hundreds and thousands of years later will have very little impact.

when did we stop calling it global warming? was it when we found out it wasn't getting warmer? or was it when we found out that temperatures on Mars and Jupitar also have risen 1 degree over the last 100 years?

A common idea that CO2 increases global temperature is not backed up by any real data, all throughout history temperatures usually go up first and then CO2 in the atmosphere rises and no the other way around as it is usually presented to us.

There appears to be a much higher correlation better solar wind activity and temperature than CO2.

I really don't care if it's warming, cooling, or doing jumping jacks. We shouldn't be polluting the way we are and we need to utilize more renewable forms of energy.

Climate change is going to happen one way or another. Even if we stop right now, it's still going to happen due to the lag. So what do we do about it? We are going to have to deal with the impacts of it. That's is where our emphasis is going to have to be.
