Chief Minister Concerned about India’s Move on River Chenab

The Chief Minister of Punjab, Mr. Shahbaz Sharif, has expressed concern over India’s move of blocking the flow of River Chenab, saying that it will seriously damage Punjab’s agrarian economy. Addressing a meeting at the Secretariat on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, the CM Punjab said that blocking Chenab waters by India will affect som e5 million acres of cultivable and fertile land in Punjab. The province of Punjab is Pakistan’s biggest agricultural province, especially important for its wheat production.

Mr. Sharif told the meeting that India’s move of holding Pakistan’s share of water was a serious violation of the Indus Basin Treaty and it must be handled with extreme care. According to Mr. Sharif, India must release 55 thousand cusec of water to Pakistan, as implied by the Indus Basin Treaty. The CM ordered the Irrigation Secretary to provide a comprehensive report on the issue, including India’s power generation projects at more than 10 points.

India blocked Chenab water in October to fill the Baglihar Dam despite Indian Prime Minister’s assurance to Pakistan’s President. After the failure of a joint plan for combating terrorism, India’s move has caused serious concern among Pakistani circles, especially in the sector of agricultural economy.

Very important subject, my unconditional admiration !

Pakistani leader’s stupidities and naive ” Jehalat ” exposed
all along these crook treaties signed by suspicious Pakistani
administration of post Zaffarullah foreign office, ruled by the
wicked traitors, they simply did’nt knew that nearly all the
big rivers have their ” Mimba ” (source) in Tibet, e.g. Indus
comes from a Tibetain lake called ” Manosarawar”
similarly, Jehlum, Chenab, Sutlag etc. as there are atleast
40 grand lakes of hundreds of km squares at such an
altitude, many of them are literally virgin, thank God.

My demand, and that of all Pakistanis is to revise all the
treaties one by one and remove those against Pak Interest.

India’s stratergie is to dry Pak Punjab and Sindh.

India must be warned and necessarily sanctioned if not
punished, they don’t listen to reasons, they are violating
completely International laws and obligations engaged.

This problem must be looked after, or else there can be a
War. For waters Pakistanis will attack India and teach
them a lesson for ever.

India and Pakistan...always found fighting amongst each other. Weather its Kashmir or Nuclear power and now the water. What's wrong with you guys. If a treaty is mutually signed by both the governments then why can't it be followed peacefully? Why to create unnecessary problems for others and yourself?

Farhan and Arsalan ,

Crying like sisies never helped anybody.Who will warn India and who will sanction it? If Pakistan cannot produce good leaders is it India’s or Indian peoples fault?

India has made a dam which it has to fill up,tough luck to Pakistan. In Anycase what has Pakistan done to develop the natural resources it already has which can give it great wealth and resources e.g Saindhak Copper and Gold fields, and Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipe line.Over 10 years wasted just discussing these. If you had the gas pipe line working if India stopped your water ,you could have stopped their gas .No?

So stop talking nonsense. We must put our own act togather, before we expect our own politicians -or even of other countries - to respect the Pakistani nation.Elect and accept robbers and dictators in your own back yard ,and you will be robbed and dictated to by all.

I forgot to add Gawadar deep sea water port.Singapore earns more then India and Pakistan put together from one deep sea water port-and that is not located in as busy a shipping zone as Gulf-cum central Asia-cum Indo-Pak sub continent.

China has been ready since ages to help us in all three - and we do not move because of other interests.
