At least 11 Taliban terrorists were killed and 10 other left wounded when military helicopters and fighter jets pounded their hideouts in Bajaur Agency on Tuesday, 21st of October. A number of Taliban possessed areas in the Nowagai Tehsil were targeted during the operation, destroying several of them. According to state media, the law-and-order situation in the agency area has improved significantly as manifest from the fact that all the government offices, businesses, and educational institutes remained open throughout the day in three main tehsils of the agency.
Like in other tribal areas of Pakistan, tribes in Bajaur have joined hands for civilian action against Taliban who are using their native land for terrorist violence. A grand meeting (jirga) was held on Tuesday at a government school in Pusht, vowing to expel any natives who provide shelter/support to Taliban, besides burning their houses and charging a heavy monetary fine.
Meanwhile, Swat remains seriously infested with Taliban terrorists and security staff is the primary target of explosions and suicide bombings made by Islamic militants. In various recent incidents, 2 security staff members and one civilian were killed while five Taliban were gunned down in two different localities of Swat. In the Kanju area of Kabal, a storage facility of the World Food Program (WFP) was set on fire by Taliban, resulting in the destruction of around 70, 000 canisters of cooking oil.
In Darra Adam Khel, situated between Peshawar and Kohat, the check on terrorists has been tightened and 17 more suspects have been arrested, most of them Uzbeks, carrying arms of Russian and German origin including rocket launchers and machine guns. The crackdown on Taliban continues as Pakistan fights back the terrorist violence that has lately gained momentum in the country.
